Happy Christmas everyone! I’m back from my trip in Malaysia and while I didn’t take any photos at all, I had a stellar time with my cousins. But now that I am home again and reunited with my weighing scale, I am very much inclined to cry. I GAINED THREE KILOS OH MY FORKING MADONNA. How did I let this happen?! Asian food isn’t supposed to make me fat dammit – one month of cheap ass Asian grub and I am still far from looking like SNSD. Maybe it’s the lack of kimchi in my diet right now. Whatever it is, I am hauling my ass to the gym starting tomorrow because I would rather work out than not eat at all.

Also, did anyone check out the MANGO sale that’s been going on since last week? I got a couple of things including the pair of heels Scarlett Johansson’s wearing in the campaign photos! How hot are they? They’re 5 inches high and as with all my shoes, they are perfection!

scarjo

I’ve also been digging up my old copies of Vogue for some light reading and coupled with ice cream from the Island Creamery, it’s my favourite way to waste away the slow afternoons. I’m trying to immerse myself in as much fiction as possible too, before school starts swamping me with massive amounts of incomprehensible theory. A friend gave me a set of books by Haruki Murakami last Christmas and I’ve always regretted not being able to bring it with me when I moved (I ran out of luggage space, the shoe whore in me deemed my heels were more important ._.) so I’m gradually leafing through the pages of each book. If anyone wants an introduction to Murakami, I really enjoyed his collection of short stories: Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman - check that out if you haven’t ;D

p.s new links will be coming up shortly! I’m doing a major overhaul on all my links and reorganizing them into a new page so it’s taken longer than I’d like.

CARINE ROITFELD LEAVES VOGUE PARIS!

vp-marion

roitfeld2

roitfeld1

OH. MY. GOD. The incredulous has happened, Carine Roitfeld has resigned from her post as editor of French Vogue!

In a surprise move, Carine Roitfeld said Friday she will step down as editor in chief of French Vogue at the end of January.

“It’s 10 years that I’m editor of the magazine,” Ms. Roitfeld, one of the most influential editors in the fashion business, said in a telephone interview. “I think it’s time to do something different.”

She informed Jonathan Newhouse, the chief executive of Conde Nast International, that she wished to pursue other projects. – NYTimes

I cry. I have lost track of the many seasons I spent lusting for her Alaïa shoes and stalking her super hot Vogue Paris team (mmm Melanie Huynh) Will those days be numbered now that she’s gone? I’m secretly hoping she hooks up with Tom Ford again like back in the day when he ruled Gucci (No, not in THAT way – everyone knows Ford swings for the other team)

It actually makes sense? Ford is back with a new womenswear collection and Roitfeld recently made him guest editor of the December 2010 issue of Vogue Paris so I won’t be surprised if those two are collaborating on something big. Well, whatever it is – good luck Carine and holy crap, good luck Vogue Paris. I don’t know how you guys are going to find someone as achingly talented but I’m sure you will try!

Today also happens to be my bff LK’s birthday!! Happy birthday, darling! Wishing you all the best for your exam results tho seriously, we both know you don’t need the luck because you’re crazy smart. I still find it incredible that we’ve been such good friends for so long – 8 years and counting! You are brilliant and I often strive to work harder because I’m so inspired by the way you work. Lunch next week, ne? <3 <3 <3

Also a mini announcement: I’ll be leaving for a short family vacation to Malaysia for the next couple of days so I’ll only be updating late next week when I get back ;D Take care, everyone!

Just some photos of my lunch date in the city with my bff! I managed to sneak my miu miu bow bag out of the house without my mother knowing and finally after a year of repeated mental reminders to myself that my faux leather bags still looked great next to LK’s Louis Vuitton Tadao bag, WE ARE NOW EVEN MY DEAR FRIEND. Anyway, about my mother – bless her heart, the bag is mine but she insists I use it only for dinners or weddings.

Fancy dinners and weddings occur like, NEVER? That may be a bit of an exaggeration since I did just attend a couple of weddings last week but the point is the miu miu bow is an EVERYDAY bag, it’s not supposed to be unleashed only once every full moon (or in this case, blue moon) like a Taylor Lautner style underage werewolf. Besides, she already has the Chanel 2.55 on hand for special events lol so MOM I’M SORRY BUT I’M HIJACKING MY MIU MIU.

While I do enjoy catching up with my friends (and eating 3x my body weight), being back in Singapore does have its gripes.

1) I was on the train today and this 6-year-old girl is blasting Justin Bieber on her iPhone WTF? Dude, this is not cool. Parents, please educate your children before releasing them into the concrete wilderness kthx.

2) I know a lot of Malay guys are into tattoos, it’s really none of my business what you do with your body but please for the love of AESTHETICISM, DO NOT DIY YOUR OWN TATS. I have been treated to a visual non-gasm of scrawls in faded blue ink on arms and legs. I know a lot of people make the decision (or mistake) of tattooing their girl/boyfriend’s name onto their skin but please do not attempt to scratch “REENA SYG KU” into your skin without a professional’s help. TOLONG LAH SIKIT BILA KITA NAK MAJU NI?!

3) Cupid has some serious explaining to do. Suddenly EVERYONE is getting engaged/hitched/preggers. Two years ago, my mother flipped when she found out I was dating some guy and a couple of months later, she was so happy we were no longer together, it was almost criminal (criminal because it was a dark time for me and she could have at least masked her happiness a little) Now, she is flipping out because I am a fine-fresh-fierce single *snaps fingers* with no plans to date anyone. She’s bent on getting me to date her friend’s son whom btw is SO NOT BOYFRIEND MATERIAL.

Despite the er, indulgent nature of this blog, I am not a superficial bitch. In terms of men, as cliche as it sounds, I don’t believe looks are everything. I like a guy I can converse with over pertinent issues, someone who laughs with me and maybe someone who understands the importance of LANVIN in a girl’s life (LOL I’M KIDDING!) But yeah, this “potential” boyfriend my mother had in mind just wasn’t someone I’d picture myself with. It’s great that my friends and cousins are getting engaged but it’s also great that I’m single and blissfully happy with the way my life has been – besides I want LANVIN, not diamonds ;p

Perhaps the most beautiful editorial I’ve seen in this month’s issue of Vogue Italia. What’s incredible is that it’s shot by a never before heard photographer who’s only turned 20. The other amazing thing is that I just lied through my teeth here because (sadly) this editorial wasn’t actually published in Vogue Italia but doesn’t it look like something out of the pages of a celebrated fashion magazine?

I’ve known the photographer since he was 16 and in the span of the 4 years, I’ve seen him dabble in so many creative projects and I am always left reeling in jealousy. You know when you try to make something, it usually doesn’t turn out the way you’ve visioned it to be? It’s different for him. I don’t know what his parents fed him when he was a child -maybe playdoh on toast or scrambled legos- but the amount of natural talent he has is astounding. Everything he makes, draws, photographs turns out to be the modern day equivalent of a Dali. And this is no dramatization. In my mental list of designers I know, he’ll always be at the top.

I’ll have to admit it is daunting to be friends with someone so talented but in actuality, he’s incredibly sweet (do not gag, it’s the truth) and very, very humble. And these are the simple reasons why I know he is going to be the biggest thing the Singapore design scene has ever seen – so remember his name: Khairil Osman.

Khairil darling, coffee when I’m back k? x

Anyway guys, I know I’m really behind commenting etc (some of you prolly hasn’t seen a comment from me in months erk >_<) – I’ve been stealing back the hours of sleep I lost the past couple of weeks so bear with me and I will get back to my regular posting/commenting/replying to my own comments in a bit. I swear on Prada.

p.s see if you guys can spot the swallow-printed miu miu heels ;p

Earl Grey Party

ferli2

ferli4

ferli5

Yes, call this a blatantly biased opinion but I don’t care – Earl Grey Party (EGP) is Singapore’s best online fashion store. I have seen its brand name grow from a humble little page on LiveJournal to what it currently is now: a beautifully designed e-store teeming with an amalgamation of basic tees, trendy pieces and hot hot hot shoes. Furry, EGP’s founder, also happens to be a good friend of mine and trust me, this girl knows her fashion.

I’m blogging about EGP, NOT because I got paid a ridiculous amount of money to feature the site (which btw would be nice since this site costs $$ to run, what about it Furry? ;p) but this afternoon, Furry decided to publish a profile/interview piece I wrote on her. It was for a school assignment that required me to interview someone interesting and Furry was an obvious choice. I am extremely honored to be featured on EGP’s web blog. Thank you so much for your time, Furry!

You guys can read the interview on EGP’s blog HERE HERE HERE. (FORK YEAH I’m shamelessly plugging my own work)

If you like the clothes featured in this entry, they’re available for purchase at www.earlgreyparty.com

And a special announcement:

ferli3

To all the girls who managed to get this top from EGP’s previous collection BEFORE I DID, I’ve gotten your addresses from Furry and will be STALKING your houses the minute I fly back to Singapore. The minute you emerge from your house with this top on, I will swoop in and forcibly take what is RIGHTFULLY MINE.

K fine, before I get slapped with a restraining order and a lawsuit, I will say the paragraph is an obvious fake. STILL JEALOUS OF YOU GIRLS THOUGH.

Finders Keepers

Things have slowed down quite a bit since my last update so I’m taking a well deserved breather before I start going full throttle again. Mid terms are over and everything’s been smooth sailing so far. I recently discovered vanilla soy milk and it’s the only thing that’s keeping me away from dishing out AUD$4.00 for a cup of bubble tea. Spring has finally decided to move out of the shadows of winter, she’s about a month late but ah spring is quickly becoming my favourite season- the wind has mellowed down to a slight breeze, the trees are slowly regaining their greenery and oh the warmth of the sun!

I’m slowly breaking out my spring wardrobe, which is honestly my summer clothes being remixed for Spring – I’m a poor student now guys, can’t afford no McQueen ._. It actually feels foreign to me now since I’ve been wearing a blazer/trench everyday for the last 3-4 months. It’s nice not to feel icky when wearing a blazer after 10 minutes as opposed to when I was in Singapore but you cannot imagine how liberating it is to be able to wear just 1-2 layers of clothing without running the risk of freezing your bits.

Yumi and I headed to the Docklands last weekend for the Finders Keepers art and design market! The Finders Keepers markets offer a collective of stalls run by emerging designers and artist. Typically only held in Sydney and Brisbane, last weekend marked Melbourne’s first Finders Keepers event yay!

docklands

docklands2

The Docklands is somewhat detached from the city in terms of its architecture and layout. You have clusters of futuristic buildings built near the water and evenly spaced out with large planes of wooden planks. It reminds me a bit of Singapore’s HarbourFront/VivoCity area except on a much larger scale.

yumi

The enigmatic Yumi with her kitty holga! No photos of me sry, as much as I’d like you to believe I look effortless everyday – I don’t.

finders

finders2

The market’s held in a huge warehouse named Shed 4, I had weird visions of Warhol’s Factory the whole time I was there except no one was tripping on amphetamine.

frankie

Frankie was one of their major sponsors so naturally, there was a couple of tables dedicated to Frankie magazines and merchandise.

scratchcards

Scratch greeting cards, I thought it was an interesting concept. Greeting cards are usually passive but these cards only reveal their saccharine messages when you’ve scratched off the silver coating with a coin.

moose

SQUEE! Animal rings! This stall was easily one of my favourites from the market. Look at those bunny rings! I usually go for antiqued gold when it comes to jewelry but that matte black finishing some of the rings had were stellar. Yumi bought a bunny one for herself and she sneakily surprised me with a ring from the same store before we left.

rings2

Trying on some cocktail rings at another stall. Such (expensive) beauties. My nail colour’s CHANEL Le Vernis in Particuliere. It’s an offbeat a brownish shroomy grey, it’s not a colour I would normally pick but CHANEL has somehow made mud look elegant, folks.

aquamarine

I really, really wanted this beautiful light green/blue ring (the silver ring’s mine) but it was $125 urgh. That’s 5 times over my allotted budget for rings. It’s sterling silver and the stone’s Aquamarine which prolly explains the price tag.

journals

Kitschy cute hand-printed stationery!

tags

teatowels

rings

My Finders Keepers loot! You can see subtlety isn’t for me when it comes to my rings lol. Scored this carved rose cameo ring for cheap.

gold-ring

This ring is a mystery to me, it looks like some sort of gilded, textured metal coated with a thin layer of acrylic. It fascinates me somehow, gold often has that effect on me.

mring

The ring Yumi surprised me with, any guesses what it is? I think the antlers give it away ;p

moosering

FORK YEAH A MOOSE RING! This is so kick-ass I don’t even. Thank you so much, Yumi <3333 Btw I still owe you a slice of cake, Brunetti's soon? Let me know xx

You can find out more about Finders Keepers here. Remember they have markets in Sydney and Brisbane too so if you’re based in those areas or flying over for a holiday, check to see if a market’s happening in your vicinity ;D

odds & ends

I haven’t blogged in…7 weeks.

lolnadz

And my friends have been dropping ~subtle~ hints.

angelhair1

It’s a bit unethical of me to keep bribing for your love and forgiveness with snapshots of food but I do it so well I don’t think I’ll ever stop for as long as school continues to pervade every second of my life lol.

angelhair2

I was lucky enough to be invited over for a dinner party at a friend’s place a month ago and impressed with his cooking, we made a covert deal: he was to email me his favourite recipes and I was to reveal the address of my secret brunch hangout. This pasta recipe is so easy to make; it’s actually deceiving and I say this because yes, it’s a cinch to make but it tastes like you’ve actually made an effort lol. Whiffs of this would make your dinner guests think you’ve spent hours at the stove stirring while the sauce simmers away, a seemingly complex coral-red with bits of herb green strewn in.

Capellini with Shrimp and Creamy Tomato Sauce

3 tablespoons olive oil
1 lb. Peeled shrimp
3 large garlic cloves, mashed.
1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 cup sweet red vermouth*
1 can diced tomatoes
3/4 cup heavy cream (aka double cream)
1/2 teaspoon lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
1/2 lb angel hair pasta

*I don’t drink alcohol so I substituted this with 1/2 cup of apple juice and a generous squeeze of lemon

1. Heat oil in skillet. Add shrimp, garlic with oregano, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon pepper. Turn until golden.

2. Stir in vermouth, tomatoes. Stir until tomatoes are soft.

3. Add cream and briskly simmer until sauce has thickened slightly.

4. Add lemon juice. Let it simmer for a while more.

5. Meanwhile, cook the pasta. Serve immediately.

oregano

In place of the powdered stuff, I actually used fresh oregano. I’d like to think that it does make a difference and plus, I love pulling the slightly woolly leaves off their stems and releasing them just centimetres above the pot so they can infuse perfectly with the pasta sauce by way of gravity. I like sprinkling more atop my pasta because god, I love its peppery sweetness that goes so well with anything tomato-based.

Also, I need to admit what you see in these photos aren’t shrimp; they’re grey prawns fresh off the market. Shrimp usually comes frozen here and I hate waiting around for anything to defrost (I’m lazy!) so I settled for the cheaper, faster option ;D Obviously, this recipe isn’t figure friendly (double cream omg) but does it even matter?

gone

This is going into my instant salvation in 20 mins or less recipe folder for days when I need something more than what a few mediocre rolls of sushi can offer me. Thank you for the recipe, Felix!

mags

Magazine picks of the month and I finally got Nigella Express – it was going for $12.95 at a bookfair in school, I’m extremely excited about this so it gets a spot in this entry >D

alessandra2

RUSSH is a bi-monthly Australian fashion magazine, I would consider it better than Vogue Australia actually. Alessandra’s on the cover of the current issue and urgh, could she be any perfect?

alessandra

STUNNING.

mcneil

Catherine McNeil is on the cover of Vogue Australia but sadly, the editorials in the magazine are so lacklustre. This is a pretty picture no less and I like the dramatic eyeliner in this one whoo.

nigella

And finally, we return to the familiar food porn from the domestic goddess, the anti-chef I watch obsessively on the Discovery Home & Living channel back home. Nigella Express is a beautiful, well-written collection of fast recipes for the overworked and busy.

bycandlelight

What would this entry be without the salacious promise of new make-up mmm? This is MAC’s Mineralize Skinfinish in By Candlelight, quite the poetic name for a beautiful peachy highlighter from the In The Groove collection. To be honest, I bought Petticoat first but I didn’t like it as much as I thought I would. It’s a pretty raspberry but it wasn’t very exciting so I exchanged it for By Candlelight which I much prefer.

swatch-candlelight

Here’s a swatch! You can barely see it on my skin – which is the point, really. You want highlighters to look like the glow on your skin is from within you, not on you (greasyyyy!) lol.

I must get back to my readings now sigh. I’m taking Anthropology this semester which exposes one to ‘unconventional’ culture practices e.g. eating the body of a dead relative and it is quickly becoming the subject I enjoy going to for lectures because my lecturer is this kooky English guy with the most remarkable and terribly explicit sense of humour. I’m sorry I haven’t had time to read all your entries but mid-semester break is coming and I’ll be doing some massive catch-up readings then. Meanwhile, you can follow me on Twitter or ask me a question on formspring. Take care and my muslim readers, sorry I’m a wee bit late but Happy Ramadhan & Eid!

Alexander McQueen Resort 2011

Perhaps the only Resort 2011 collection worth your time (and mine). I think Sarah Burton is doing a fantastic job at McQueen – it’s not easy taking over where he left off but she’s done it. That last dress is stunning, beautiful and left me wanting to see more. I hope to dream of this dress tonight, I don’t think I’ll ever get the chance to see it in person but it doesn’t matter. I’m just happy McQueen’s label is in the hands of someone capable and talented (too bad this doesn’t apply to Chloé, someone needs to fire Gibbon STAT.)

Nothing else can be said about the other Resort collections srsly. I don’t know why Anna Wintour is pushing for Resort collections this year, it just takes time away from the designers when they really should be focusing on their main collections. Who the hell buys Resort anyway? Miu Miu + Prada were terrible and Celine- Phoebe Philo honey, can you please leave the color blocking to Marni and Dries Van Noten? God.

22, omg where has my life gone?

I turned 22 on Sunday, another year older and perhaps none the wiser. It still hasn’t hit me that I’m an adult now, maybe that’s for the better lol. Turning 22 is scarier than turning 21 because all my fears are suddenly amplified by the passing of another year. I realised today most people reading this blog don’t actually know who I am save for my name (Ilyana is actually my middle name), my age, my incessant need for shoes/make-up and that I now live in Melbourne. So since this is my birthday entry and birthdays signify something personal to most people, I shall now reveal a couple of things about me that most of you prolly won’t know. It’s a list of “OMG EPIC FAIL” moments and hopefully you’d find this quite comical as I did when I wrote this for my creative writing module’s non-fiction piece.

Shit that has happened to me:

1. Going to the bathroom when I was 10 and forgetting the lock.

2. I’m at the doctor’s, he tells me to strip and I realise I have my bunny undies on.

3. After dropping several hints on what I want for my birthday (this beautiful bag I saw in some store), my boyfriend gives me a bag. A laptop bag. We are no longer together.

4. My mother phoning my aunts, grandma and her best friend to announce I just got my first period and therefore I am “normal”.

5. My grandmother passed away and my grandfather dies 5 days later – let’s not go there.

6. A friend gives me chocolates from Japan and hide it at the back of the fridge only to find it gone the next day. Ammar, if you’re reading this – I know it was you.

7. I spent the last couple of years thinking my bff’s blog (Aaron‘s old blog lol) was named silks on nets. It was strange and a little poetic but still strange tho I never asked him about it. I found out recently (at my own expense) it was actually silk sonnets.

Excellent milestones aren’t they? Also, if you’ve got a question to ask – ask me on my formspring! I promise I’ll be kind XD

ily3

22 and my skin has never looked worse sigh. I’m sorry you had to see this but well, everyone has pores. You just have to accept that. I hate all the break-outs I’ve been having thanks to school. Skin, can you please act your age?! Stop being a hormonal teenager, god – GET IT TOGETHER ALREADY. Eyeliner: Maybelline’s gel liner, Lipstick: NYX lipstick in B52, Blush: MAC highlight powder in Mellow Rave.

milkshake

I went out with Nad for a pre-birthday brunch at The Quarter (I could actually get used to this starve-in-the-morning-eat-at-noon thing) and that vanilla milkshake you see me having is probably one of the best I’ve had. I was looking at last year’s birthday entry and I was wearing yellow in it as well lol – I love mustard yellow, it’s such a beautiful color. This mustard yellow trench is from MANGO and it is my ABSOLUTE favourite. Best investment EVER. The color of the trench looks more accurate in the first photo than this one – this one’s been tainted by the fervent use of yellow lighting in cafes.

omelette

My mexican omelette! It’s got roasted potatoes, caramelized onions, spinach and goat’s cheese with toasted rye bread. YUM.

nad

This is Nad! We were schoolmates back in primary school and we never saw each other again for close to a decade until I moved to Melbourne. She goes to the same uni as I do…except she’s graduating in a couple of weeks, lucky duck. NAD WHO’S GOING TO BUY ME PRESENTS NOW THAT YOU’RE MOVING BACK TO SINGAPORE?!

frenchtoast

Nad had french toast soaked in maple syrup and cinnamon sugar with bananas on top :3

lancome

And as promised, beauty stuff! I’ve been obsessing over Lancome’s L’absolu Rouge lipstick in Voile De Rose when it first appeared on Temptalia and let me tell you, finding this lipstick was not easy. It’s a US-exclusive which is ridiculous – how the governments of this earth expect to work towards world peace when we, as women, don’t get equal access to make-up collections is beyond me.

Anyway childish rants aside, last month I decided I had enough of this country-exclusive bullshit and checked out the local Lancome counter to see if there were any dupes of Voile De Rose. I was swatching every pink lipstick that had similar tones on my hand and comparing each swatch with an image of Temptalia’s Voile De Rose swatch that I saved on my iphone (See I’m so obsessed it’s almost obscene). 10 minutes in and I found my baby! This is Lancome’s L’absolu Rouge Gold Lipstick SPF 15 in 354 Rose Rhapsodie. It’s a very very close match – I won’t be surprised if it really is Voile De Rose packaged under a different name. Rose Rhapsodie is a soft shade of pink, so pretty *_*

chanelrouge

Finally got my Rouge Coco in Mademoiselle from my mom when my family visited me last month! My first CHANEL lipstick whoo! Mademoiselle is the shade Vanessa Paradis is wearing in the ads and it’s a deep rose with beige undertones. I’m going to wear this today so I hope the formula doesn’t disappoint me.

swatch

Swatches for you! L to R: Rose Rhapsodie, Mademoiselle. Sorry Rose Rhapsodie looks like a blur of pink city lights, I thought I had a good shot of both swatches (it was my only shot) but when I got home and checked the images on my computer, it turned out to be er, otherwise. Ah well. Also, please take note Rose Rhapsodie looks darker in this shot than it actually is.

The love of my life, Nadz, called me in the wee hours of the morning – I won’t lie lol, I was up at midnight waiting for her call and I waited for over an hour before she finally did.

Me: “Bitch, you’re late.”
Nadz: “Huh, what time is it over there?”
Me: “1 am”
Nadz: “OH SHIT.”

HAHAHAHAHA FAIL NADZ FAIL. I miss you <333333

The parents called me the next morning.

Parents + brothers in the background: "HAPPY BIRTHDAYYYYY!!!"
Me: "Aww thanks guys!"
Dad: "We're going to Carousel later in your honour."
Me: "SIAPA PUNYE BIRTHDAY NI?!?!" (That's malay for "I'm sorry but whose birthday is this?!?!")

Shucks, I miss my family so much. After getting me my dream miu miu bag, you guys would think that my parents would stop with the STUDY HARD! GET GOOD GRADES! blackmail.

Well.

I don’t know how to say this but.

Clearly, they’ve taken it up a notch.

The catch is I have to share the bag with my mother – not that it bothers me, I’d take my chances even if I’m forced to share the bag with an orangutan LOL. Ahh this is crazy, I’m over the moon!

Les Secrets De La Veste

erk

A rare photo of me as proof that I’m still alive, though just barely. LK bought the top for me at H&M when he was in Hong Kong last year and it’s something I always keep reaching for in the closet when I feel like I need to wear something vivid as a contrast to this bleak weather we’ve been submitted to. I’ve just completed 2 essay assignments so I’ve got a bit of free time to write a quick entry before I let my study routine feast on my soul again. I actually meant to post this earlier this week but if you follow me on twitter, all my entries were wiped out due to a database glitch. It’s fixed now – thank you LK! <33

I feel really awful for neglecting this baby and I think everyone's just sick of me missing out on their entries (I'm sorry guys!) but I guess you can say my priorities are different now. Life is a lot harder when your family isn't with you NOT because you're left to fend for yourself- being independent I can deal with but because there's noone to help you with the forking LAUNDRY. Laundry has got to be the common enemy for all students living away from home, god I could go on forever about laundry but WHO WANTS TO TALK ABOUT SOILED CLOTHES WHEN WE CAN TALK ABOUT CHANEL Y/Y??

les-secrets

The local Chanel boutique had a exhibition called “Les Secrets De La Veste” which is French for “Yep we know you’d never be able to afford our jackets but hey that’s not gonna stop us from pulling out our iconic jackets, display them in store for you to touch and look at, and then you can go home crying to your spouses, blaming your lack of Chanel in the closet on their miserable paychecks and ultimately, you end up with a messy divorce”. Chanel ruins lives because you always want something you can’t have and they know it.

chanel3

Like this blazer/jacket for example. Oh my god it’s beautiful. Price tag? $8,000 and guess what, they don’t make them anymore so stab me in the heart why doncha.

embroidery

The woman in charge of the exhibition noticed we (we = my roommate and I) were early and gave us our own private tour which was really nice (now if only she handed over the Chanel flats she had on, it would have made my day). She talked about the whole process of making the tweed for the jackets, the individually weighed buttons which usually feature distinct icons of Paris that Coco Chanel was inspired by and the embroidery/beading that’s outsourced to a Parisian embroidering company that has worked with Coco for many years.

chanel1

chanel2

brunetti

We got out of Chanel, feeling slightly suicidal and hungry so somehow we ended up having desserts at Brunetti’s. Eating chocolate is the best way to heal a severe fashion heartache, that’s just the way it is.

tregusti

I had the Tre Gusti (it means three flavours in Italian according to Google Translate) which is a triple white chocolate, milk chocolate and dark chocolate mousse that’s topped with some squiggly fudge thing and a dainty sugar flower I massacred the minute it was served.

volcanothing

Roomie got this giant vanilla tart topped with a massive chunk of flakey chocolate. The name of the dessert escapes me but it might be “mostro di cioccolato cosa vulcano” which is what Google Translate thinks is Italian for “monster volcano chocolate thing”. I actually like the malay version Google came up with – “rakasa coklat gunung berapi hal” which if directly translated into English means fiery chocolate mountain monster with issues HAHAHAHAHA Don’t take my word for it tho, my malay isn’t as good as my grandmother’s.

Speaking of fiery volcanoes, my dad was in quite a fix last week because my mom’s flight back home was via Frankfurt and it was cancelled due to the volcanic ash in the air. He wasn’t actually worried about my mother being in a foreign country all by herself but letting a woman loose in New York is not exactly a good idea especially when her credit card is linked to your joint account LOL. Anyway, my mom got home safely last week (can’t say the same for the credit card bill though) and she got me a tube of the Chanel Rouge Coco in Mademoiselle and more MAC stuff yay! Sadly, I’m not going to receive them until late May so no swatches or images til then guys!

Oh and here’s one more thing she got for me:

miumiu1

OMFG MIU MIU (sorry about the cellphone photo – my dad shot this for me lol)

CAN I GO HOME NOW PLEASE?
