MAC Style Black mini haul + thermal mask review

Today I bring goodies from MAC’s Style Black collection which was released barely a month ago in Singapore. It’s a little late I know but I just received my new babies in the mail yesterday because I ordered them online via Nordstrom.

I think Style Black is a collection every MAC fan girl just died over; sooty black eyeshadows amped up by a variety of colored shimmer, creamy black lipstick and shimmery black dazzleglasses, black color bases for the face and eyes, vampy nail polishes that even made me, a girl who was never really into nail polishes, sigh in longing. You can read more about the collection here.

Now I don’t want to mislead you any further into thinking “OMG ILYANA PROLLY BOUGHT THE WHOLE COLLECTION IT’S JUZ WHAT SHE WOULD DO!” because I DIDN’T get ANY make-up at all. I know, I know, it’s a little hard to believe a make-up whore like me would skip out on the Style Black collection.

I’ll relinquish the fact that I was very, very tempted by the dazzleglass and the shadestick BUT I’ve come to the point where I think my current make-up collection is sufficient enough for me (read: I have wayyy too much and probably won’t have any more space for new ones lol)

So you must be wondering “WHAT THE HELL DID CHU SPEND ON GIRRLLL? STOP WASTIN’ MAH TIME TYVM”

haul

I got MAC Style Black’s repromoted limited edition skincare: the infamous Volcanic Ash Exfoliator and the Volcanic Ash Thermal Mask which absurdly isn’t available in the Singapore MAC counters (apparently there isn’t a “market” here, ridiculous!)

Before I start talking about what I got, let’s have a look at what my homegirl Nadz got! (We ordered together to save costs ;D)

gilt

MAC Style Black mineralize eyeshadow in “Gilt by Association” DAYUM RIGHT IT’S HOT. I spotted this first after opening the box I got in the mail, went “OMFG!!!!!!” and screamed in jealousy. IT IS SO STUNNING.

gilt-2

LOOK AT THAT! I’m just stabbing myself right now for not getting any eyeshadows from the collection. I was describing to Nadz on the phone that it looked like a effing dark galaxy with tiny gold stars…ok that was lame - REWRITE!

Gilt by Association: A dark galaxy, a midnight abyss with numerous chunky bronze-gold stars swirled around, glinting with a pearlescent lustre in the darkness.

..I can’t take myself seriously sometimes HAHAHAHA! Anyway please thank Nadz for allowing me to open up her eyeshadow, otherwise these photos won’t be here for your enjoyment ;D Thank youu bbcakes for having so much trust in me ♥

K back to MY stuff now!

volcanic-thermal

The new Volcanic Ash Thermal Mask in some super fierce MAC trademark packaging.

Formulated with Volcanic Ash and natural oils, this ash-black facial mask simultaneously deep-cleanses and treats the skin. When water is added, the mask heats up and the oils instantly lubricate the skin, leaving it feeling soft and clean. Helps keep skin moist, clean, soft, and evenly-textured. Limited edition.

100 ML/3.4 US FL US $19.50

Holy shit this mask is amazing! I didn’t really have high hopes for this mask because I think the whole “thermal” thing is just a gimmick to make you THINK the mask is working but I got it anyway because it’s formulated with safflower oil, volcanic ash, kaolin - all that good stuff!

You’re only supposed to have it on for 5 minutes which I think is brilliant because holaaa I can use it in the shower! When squeezed out of the tube, it’s gooey and opaque black. Immediately after applying it to my face, the mask heats up and somewhat solidifies within a minute. The heating effect isn’t uncomfortable and goes away quite fast. After 5 minutes, you’ve to wash it off with warm water - which I did and I don’t know if it was just me but as soon as the warm water touched the mask, it became cooler as it washed off. HOW FRICKING AMAZING IS THAT?! I was totally caught off guard lmao.

My skin was a lot softer after having used the thermal mask and it looked brighter, more clarified! LOVES IT x 283723. ‘Twas money well spent! Get a tube if you can! I feel like stocking up omg since it’s a limited edition item.

volcanic-ash

Here’s the highly raved Volcanic Ash exfoliator, it’s actually an old product which was released in 2008 but it was limited edition then too so I missed out on it. When I heard it was being repromoted with the Style Black collection, I was shaking, crying and thanking god that a miracle had descended upon us at maccosmetics.com straight from the skincare heavens…..okay it’s official- I’m high on chocolate!

A highly effective, dual-purpose foaming, cleansing and exfoliating scrub blending natural Volcanic Ash with fine sugar crystals. Refines and unclogs the skin, adds instant moisture: leaves skin feeling soft and comfortably clean. Mineral-rich. May be used effectively on any part of face or body. Rinses off with warm water.

100 ML/3.4 US FL US $19.50

I can’t do a review on the exfoliator unfortunately because I need to finish using up my LUSH Dark Angels scrub first (psst! does anyone want samples of Dark Angels? Leave me a comment!) so I’ll keep you guys posted on this one. Meanwhile, I’ve searched the internets for some useful reviews on the exfoliator you guys can read up on (omg I’m so dedicated you guys!) here and here!

Til next time~
